Hark back to an era when ‘groovy’ music filled the airways and the Scandinavians were filling the homes of the world with their courageous use of design and colour. The 50’s and 60’s were a time of unmistakable simplicity in design, which took the world by storm as studios like Marimekko, designers like Metsovaara and textile printers like Finlayson were extremely ‘hot property’.
Inspired by the bold patterns and prints, Materialised has tracked down an incredible library of designs by Marjatta Metsovaara. Metsovaara was a famous Finnish textile designer renown for using vibrant colours and creating innovative prints. Most active during the 1950’s and 1960’s, Metsovaara is well known for her high quality textiles and designing for private homes, hotels and other public buildings.
Now, thanks to the wonders of digital technology, we have brought her designs back to life. So after selecting our first four prints, we have re-worked the colours to compliment today’s trends, while staying true to the scale. We believe we have captured the spirit and energy of Metsovaara, while allowing a new generation to experience the excitement of a bygone era!
