WeaveUp Design Showcase - A Dive Into Summer

For our second WeaveUp Design Showcase we were inspired by Pantone Colour of The Year 2020, Classic Blue (PANTONE 19-4052 TCX) Images of this beautiful hue were saved to our pin board, evoking deep waters and endless summer skies. The theme was broadened to include different shades of blue ranging from ocean indigo to crystal-clear turquoise shorelines.

Barbara’s showcase was inspired by a feeling… Long summer days spending the day at the beach, floating all your worries away in the salt water. Where to use such pretty designs? “I envision these prints for a modern cafe with lots of natural plants and wooden features,” says Barbara.

Julie’s WeaveUp designs evoke the feeling of calmness and serenity using a variety of different shades. “With long hot summer days, one dreams of being by the water surrounded by green palms; listening to the waves as they come rolling in or looking at the water ripples glistening in the sun. A Dive into Summer takes us on adventures to exotic locations where pink sands stretch along the coast or many shades of blue play on the Mediterranean Sea.”

Brigitte chose the design Wombarra because it reminds her of the seaweed with the little floaters she finds at her local beach. It is a fitting companion for Pool Side, a water design she created for this story! Brigitte adds, “Incidentally, Wombarra is a Southcoast village very close to my home. It is one of those magic places, situated between ocean and escarpment where I love going to forget about the rest of the world.”

Base Cloths

The fabrics we chose for digital printing were Arizona, Preakness and Dublin Snow, all possessing a similar cool feel to linen and cotton yet the durability of polyester. We also added Palermo velvet for its fluidity and touch of luxury.

When you upload your designs to WeaveUp, you have the option to save them as:

  • A Lab file.
  • Or an Index file.

If your artwork has many shades, such as our Diatom_ Cre8 design, indexing it will allow you to reduce the number of colours to a smaller, more manageable palette (up to 12) and make it customisable.

WeaveUp Indexing

Indexing breaks down the design into tiny dots that give the appearance of multiple shades when mixed together, somewhat similar to the halftone technique. The dots are so fine they cannot be seen when printed.
