Installation Guide
Instructions for the installation of our Magnolia Home wall vinyl collection.
IMPORTANT
If at any time during the installation a discrepancy is discovered, STOP. Contact Materialised Pty Ltd before proceeding.
- Before cutting, examine goods to make certain pattern colour is satisfactory and as ordered.
- Cut panels and headers in roll number sequence, making sure that run numbers are broken at INSIDE corners only.
- 140cm wide commercial wall covering must be installed in sequential order. Each roll has a roll number. Begin hanging the highest numbered roll and work down in sequence. Install all wall covering under adequate lighting and heated conditions that will exist when the space is occupied.
Surface Preparation
Remove old wall covering completely, then remove remaining adhesive with a good quality adhesive remover, then rinse wall and allow to dry. Prime wall with a heavy duty, acrylic/latex wall covering primer.
Plaster and masonry wall surfaces should not exceed 5.5% moisture as measured by a moisture meter. Do not install a wall covering unless a temperature above 12°C is maintained in both areas of installation and storage for three days before and three days after the installation.
If there are any questions concerning the surface to be covered, a test installation of at least three strips applied three days in advance of the main installation is recommended.

Application
- This wall covering requires the use of a heavy duty, premixed vinyl adhesive. Dilution of adhesive is not recommended.
- For patterns with a definite design (such as a floral or damask), do not reverse the strips. Overlap each strip approximately 3.5cm and position it to maintain the match of the pattern. Using a sharp razor, cut through the overlapped area and remove the excess edges. Smooth the razor cut edges back to the wall for a perfect seam. This material in a 140cm width (approx.) is designed to be overlapped and double cut, not butted! Some patterns (such as a cloud print or marble texture) may have a more subtle design characteristic than others. By first laying two strips together on the table or floor prior to pasting, the proper match can be determined. On random textures or non-directional stripes, reverse each strip, overlap and double-cut. The match and design of each pattern determines whether it should be reversed or not prior to double cutting.
- Apply the recommended adhesive to the back using either a paste machine or a paint roller. Work the adhesive in to cover the back completely, especially near the edges. Fold or “book” each end toward the middle, pasted sides together, aligning the edges carefully so they do not dry out. Caution: Do not crease the wall covering. Allow to “relax” or book for 10 minutes (booking). This will allow the adhesive to penetrate the wall covering fabric which is important for a successful installation.
- Hang the first strip parallel to a plumb line.
- After three strips are installed, inspect the wall covering. If the pattern effect is not acceptable, or if there is variation in colour, discontinue hanging and contact the dealer or distributor immediately. The manufacturer will not be responsible for labour beyond three strips. Defective material will be replaced.
Professional Tip
A heat gun can be used to facilitate ease of installation around corners.
Product Use Advisory
This product is intended for use in buildings designed and maintained to avoid moisture accumulation on or within walls, particularly in warm, humid climates. The features that make vinyl wall covering so cleanable and durable also render it very low in permeability.
Vinyl wall covering products should not be installed on walls that contain excessive moisture or are subject to moisture infiltration (more permeable products should be considered for use under such conditions).
If mould or mildew is present, or if walls show moisture damage or have excess moisture content, do not proceed with installation.
Moisture infiltration and water vapor in and behind the wall must be eliminated for proper performance. Processes that increase permeability, including micro venting, should be considered for use under certain conditions. In addition, the use of a mildew inhibitor in the primer and adhesive is highly recommended.
Primers and adhesives with the highest possible permeability rating are also highly recommended.
After installation, the walls and wall covering should be monitored for potential moisture or water vapor infiltration and accumulation. Any such infiltration or accumulation after installation must be promptly eliminated.
