Acoustic Sheer Curtain Fabric

Acoustic Sheer Curtain Fabric

You’ll hardly believe the huge difference acoustic sheer curtain fabric makes to the acoustic amenity of a room.

Our range boasts a combination of attributes previously unavailable for commercial spaces:

  • Translucent
  • NRC of 0.58+
  • Flame retardant
  • Wide width
  • Lightweight
  • Durable

“Hush acoustic sheers absorb significantly more sound energy than any other sheer fabric that I know of. In contemporary decors where hard surfaces are preferred, these acoustic sheers are an ideal way to introduce desperately needed, unobtrusive, and highly effective sound absorption.” – David Spargo, owner of Praxis Acoustics.

How Acoustic Sheer Curtain Fabric Works – Trevira CS yarn

Woven with a ribbon-shaped Trevira CS yarn, this filament is the key to their sound absorption, managing the flow of sound waves repeatedly passing through and bouncing off a reflective surface. This changes the tone, becoming muffled, and results in the reduction of sound levels.

Trevira CS yarn can be woven into dense, textured fabrics. The density and structure of the fibres create numerous small gaps and pores within the material, which helps trap and absorb sound waves, reducing reverberation and echo in a room. This is particularly important in spaces like offices, theatres, or auditoriums, where controlling sound reflection is essential.

The texture and weave of fabrics made from Trevira CS yarn create a non-reflective surface, helping scatter sound waves instead of reflecting them directly. This improves sound diffusion and makes spaces more acoustically balanced.

While thinner materials often absorb high-frequency sounds, thicker Trevira CS-based fabrics can absorb a wider range of frequencies, including low-frequency sounds, which are harder to control. This makes Trevira CS fabrics suitable for a broader range of acoustic treatments, from curtains to wall panels.

NRC Explained

To quantify our product as commercial acoustic solutions, each is tested and awarded an NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) rating. The NRC relates to the absorption effectiveness of the material, and is calculated by averaging how absorptive a material is at four different frequencies.

Our acoustic sheer curtain fabric is tested at 250hz, 500hz, 1000hz and 2000hz. Taking the average number, it is then applied to the NRC scale of 0 to 1. A perfectly sound absorptive material achieves a 1, whereas a 0 indicates no absorption.

Our NRC test methods position the acoustic fabric 100mm from the window or wall, i.e. with a 100mm air gap, and deliver an outstanding NRC rating of between 0.55 and 0.71.
