Installation Guide

Instructions for the installation of our woven silica wall covering.

STOP! PLEASE READ BEFORE INSTALLING. If after applying three (3) strips, there is some question of appearance, stop and contact Materialised Pty Ltd

ALL INSTALLATIONS MUST CONFORM TO MANUFACTURER’S CURRENT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AND PRODUCT TECHNICAL INFORMATION IN ORDER FOR MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTY PROTECTIONS TO APPLY. If the wall covering is installed in a manner other than that recommended by Manufacturer, it is done at the sole risk of the installer and Manufacturer’s warranty protections do not apply. Use of a mould-inhibiting primer product and the use of an adhesive containing a mildew inhibitor is recommended.

All labels shall be checked for accuracy by the installer to ensure that the shipment is received as ordered. Check all roll tickets to determine if more than one run or lot of the same pattern is to be installed. Installer should have a sample of the wall covering pattern for comparison.

If no defect is evident before installation, the material should be inspected after three (3) panels are installed. If any defect is evident at this time (or any point of the installation), no further material should be applied, and Distributor should be contacted IMMEDIATELY. Manufacturer WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR CHARGES OVER THREE PANELS OF MATERIAL. Manufacturer will replace defective wall covering in accordance with the terms of its warranty.

Surface Preparation

All hanging surfaces must be clean, smooth, dry, undamaged, free of mold, mildew, grease, or stains, and structurally intact. All loose paint and other wall coverings should be removed. If moisture is present, immediately identify and eliminate the source(s) of the moisture and verify that all wall surfaces are completely dry before proceeding.

We recommend the use of a suitable wall covering primer.

Adhesive

We recommend using a good quality, premixed, commercial wall covering adhesive. Adhesive can be applied to the wall directly or paste and book the wall covering, with the option of using a paste machine.

Applying Wall Covering To Wall Surface

Ensure colour and pattern of the rolls is satisfactory and as specified.

Before hanging, examine pattern for colour uniformity.

After three strips are reverse hung, carefully inspect the wall covering. Approval should be obtained at this point before proceeding. If there is variation in color and/or pattern effect, discontinue hanging and contact your distributor immediately. THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CLAIMS BEYOND THREE (3) STRIPS.

Apply only product of the same batch number to the same wall. If it is necessary to install multiple batches, the change should occur on an inside corner.

To ensure this is reverse hung, mark panels as they are cut to identify the orientation they are to be applied to the wall.

If applying adhesive using a nap roller, apply an even coat of the adhesive to the wall surface. For generous coverage, use a 1/2” or 3/4” roller. If applying adhesive using a paste machine, work the adhesive in to cover the back completely, especially near the edges. Fold or “book” each end toward the middle, pasted sides together, aligning the edges carefully so they do not dry out. Caution: Do not crease the wall covering. Allow to “relax” or book for 10 minutes (booking). This will allow the adhesive to penetrate the wall covering fabric, which is important for a successful installation.

  • Apply the wall covering to wall surface immediately. Do not crease the material.
  • Wipe the surface clean of any adhesive immediately with a clean, damp sponge.
  • Use a plastic broad knife to smooth out any air bubbles. Do not use a metal broad knife as it can damage the glass fibres.
  • Cut using a sharp, single edge blade. Use a new blade per cut.
  • Subsequent strips can be installed using the overlap and double cut method.

General Conditions Day-To-Day Soil

Ordinary dirt and smudges can be removed with a mild soap and warm water. Clean from bottom of wall upward. Rinse thoroughly with clean water from the top down using a soft sponge. Dry wall covering with a soft, lint-free cloth or towel.

Not recommended for cleaning are steel wool or powdered abrasives because they mark the surface, leaving an unsightly appearance. DO NOT use active solvent-type cleaning agents, such as nail polish remover, etc. because they remove print and/or finish from the wall covering.
