Casino Design – The Brief

The design for this project was inspired by the grandeur of the existing heritage building, with its classically opulent aesthetic.

The key design elements within the space incorporated geometric motifs and interlinked patterns which reference global luxury brands. Synonymous with the aspirational nature of casinos, this formed the basis of the design for the decorative pieces such as carpets and fabrics.

Materialised Product

LoomSources’ Salon upholstery fabric perfectly suited the chic suite brief and offered the necessary performance for a high-traffic gaming area. A beautiful, textured parquetry velvet weave it is GREENGUARD Gold certified and has a soil and stain resistant finish.

“We wanted to utilise velvet as much as possible,” explains Rebekah Levison, Senior Associate Interior Designer for WEBB+. “firstly, to talk back to the historical nature of the building, but also to give the rich opulence in terms of colour and feel. The tactile nature of the fabric is something that the end user experiences on a subconscious level and reinforces the idea that the space is both luxurious and of high quality.”

Crypton La Scala

“We were excited to use Crypton velvets for the first time. Traditionally Cryptons are favoured by operators because of the amount of wear and tear they can handle for gaming furniture. Often customers sit for hours and hours at a table or game. Cryptons of the past have been very heavily associated with healthcare and we are so excited that now we see such an extensive range of beautiful Crypton fabrics that not only look good but feel so soft and luxurious.

The Crypton La Scala came in such a beautiful palette of colours and with a very subtle metallic sheen that works so beautifully in our design. And now that Materialised has a printable velvet, Crypton George Parchment, there is huge scope for designers to customise.”

Working with Materialised

“Working with Materialised made the whole process very easy”, says Rebekah. “I have been a huge fan of LoomSource and Momentum for the last ten years. Not only are the designs on trend, but they are also not overly used everywhere so you feel you are offering something unique. The performance quality of these fabrics means I never have to worry how they are going to hold up in any job.”

“The Materialised custom product is also great as I don’t have to spend huge amounts of time sourcing fabrics that fit the vision of the interior design. Their ability to customise colours and scale on such a broad selection of substrates allows us to push design boundaries, giving clients new and unique ideas. It means products can be re-ordered over time and never get discontinued.”

Casino design – the future

“We are experiencing such an interesting time, interior design wise. Post pandemic we see the blurring of boundaries in terms of clearly defined spaces serving a single purpose. Our homes have become workplaces, our workplaces our socialising spaces and typical hospitality spaces our second homes or workplace.”

“As designers we are listening and responding to new ways of thinking, living, working, socialising, and doing lots of everyday tasks or activities in general. We must approach each project with no preconceptions of how spaces are necessarily going to look or feel anymore, and instead have an open mind that the spaces we create are going to need to be many different things for many different people. For most designers this is a fantastic opportunity to try out new ideas and push boundaries.” – Rebekah Levison.
