Smart school library design by Hosking Interior Design has quickly delivered outstanding results for students and teachers of Sunrise Christian School in Paradise, South Australia.

The Brief

The brief was to create an interactive, multi-use school library design for everyone to use and enjoy. The emphasis was on the area being inviting and inclusive. The school viewed this space as a centrepiece, and the Hosking Design team worked with them to create a functional and attractive destination for students.

They also confidently refer us on to new clients.”

Fulfilling the client brief and delivering a project where the aesthetics and functionality of the design are both considered, ensures a positive user outcome. We want our clients to thrive in the spaces we create. – Sonja Hosking, Hosking Design

School Library Design, Materialised Product

Zircon Zem is a coarsely textured base cloth with a waterproof backing with Oeko-Tex® certified yarn and HealthGuard antimicrobial finish, perfect for school library design.

The specification of materials by Hosking Design comes after careful consideration of their end use, and constant updating of product knowledge means they are confident specifiers. These prints were selected as the team were “seeking biophilic designs to soften and add textural pattern, the scale of patterns, the colourways and to evoke a feeling of Australiana.”

The Result

The principal, librarian and staff feedback has been resoundingly positive. The favourable feedback from the students is that it has become the favourite part of the school. “From our perspective as designers it is very gratifying that we have fulfilled the brief, exceeded expectations, and delighted our client,” says Sonja.

The Future For Education Design

Sonja Hosking recently attended a Learning Environments Australasia Conference in South Australia and noted a couple of important comments…

  1. Creating flexible, learning spaces of retreat is paramount for student wellbeing.
  2. Sensory softening environments are crucial to aid educational opportunities for all students who may struggle in these areas.

“Sustainable products are becoming prevalent,” adds Sonja. “It is important that we keep specifying them and pushing for advancement in this area. Making recycled products the norm not the exception is our goal! Recycled acoustic panels and in fact all acoustic materials are rising in importance as we seek to address sensory issues in students and provide the best learning environment we can.”

Hosking Design are thriving with existing clients, new clients, new team members and boundless enthusiasm for interior design. And if your goal is to encourage learning, then this school library project gets an A+ from us!
