When it comes to residential care design, every surface matters, especially the ones we touch. At the newly opened waterfront wing of Uniting AgeWell Strathaven, Crown Furniture and Materialised have come together to craft a setting that redefines aged care living through elegant, purpose-driven design.
Launched in January 2025, this 52-bed Residential Aged Care development in Tasmania presents a striking balance of comfort, independence, and contemporary aesthetic. With panoramic river views stretching to MONA and light-filled interiors, Strathaven creates a refined environment that supports physical and emotional wellbeing.
Upholstery Designed for Living Well
Materialised’s luxury, fit-for-purpose upholstery fabrics were thoughtfully specified by Crown Furniture throughout the interiors to ensure each piece of furniture met the highest standards of both form and function. Our fabrics not only enhance the visual appeal of each space but also meet the stringent performance and hygiene requirements essential in aged care environments.
Luxury Residential Care Design
From early-stage concept design through to final installation, Crown Furniture worked closely with the Strathaven project team to deliver a holistic furnishing solution. This included resident trials, spatial planning, colour consulting and fabric specification, with Materialised’s Australian-made textiles chosen for their durability, cleanability, and timeless style.

A Partnership Grounded in Purpose
“Our collaboration with Crown Furniture and close relationship with their designer, Julianne Brown, reflects a shared commitment to uplifting residential care design through quality, comfort and attention to detail,” says Materialised’s Project Sales Manager, Elizabeth Westwood. “Every piece of upholstered furniture supports the day-to-day living experience of residents, offering tactile luxury, aesthetic harmony, and reassuring performance.”
“Together, we’ve contributed to an environment where care feels like home, and where the smallest detail, from fabric texture to tonal palette, plays a meaningful role in shaping lives with dignity and joy,” adds Julianne.
