Move over minimalism and say hello to Mineralism!

When it comes to interior design, colour plays a crucial role in creating a welcoming and comfortable space. Whether you’re designing a hotel lobby, a hospital waiting room, or a corporate office, understanding the psychology of colour and its impact on human behaviour is essential for creating a space that meets the needs and desires of its occupants.

In this blog post, we celebrate colour with Shibori’s new print collection, Mineralism!

Mineralism collection colour inspiration

Shibori’s Mineralism collection showcases the wonders of Australasian minerals and the diversity of their creation. Five designs are digitally printed in Sydney on fit-for-purpose, fire retardant furnishing textiles, wall covering and roller blind substrates.

Colour Crush

“It was an absolute dream to let the creativity run wild and experiment beyond indigo to create new colour schemes for this collection,” explains our Head of Design, Chloe Evans, who developed the range in close collaboration with Shibori. “Inspiration came from the stunning jewel tones found in Australasian minerals and gemstones. Breathtaking opals from deep within the Australian landscape, and the lush emerald hue of the Pounamu stone from New Zealand’s South Island formed part of the research.”

The collection features three distinct colour schemes that draw inspiration from minerals found in Australasia. “Colour is so important for so many reasons,” says Shibori’s co-founder, Pepa.

With this collection we are hoping to invoke emotion in interiors, appealing to aged care residents, hospital patients, students, hotel guests and restaurant patrons alike.” – Pepa Martin, Shibori.

“We experimented with resist dyeing on unfamiliar surfaces not commonly used in traditional shibori techniques,” explains Karen of Shibori.

Stretching the traditional technique beyond cloth by exploring the surface textures of dyeing, pleating, and ripping paper demonstrates the versatility of dye and delivers an Australasian take on this Japanese art form.
