“The desert colour stories of our new collection are designed to take you through the diversity of the Great Sandy Desert, highlighting the illustrative, storytelling ways of Jimmy Pike,” says our Lead Textile Designer, Chloe Evans.
Desert Colour Stories
“The desert spirit is fun, adventurous, natural, playful and cosmic,” says Steve Culley, MD & Founder of Desert Designs. Desert Designs provides a platform for Jimmy Pike’s art to take the world stage and it was in 1985 when the first ever license agreement was established.
Decades later we are proud to embrace this desert spirit and interpret it into a contract furnishing textile and wall covering collection. Here we take you through the colour stories created for the Jimmy Pike Desert in Colour collection.
Desert At Night – Navy & Golds
The desert at night. No artificial lights to interfere with the inky outback sky, creating a perfect canvas for the stars and light to dance against.
Desert In Bloom
Oranges, teals and pinks. Bold pops of contrasting colours celebrate the gorgeous hues found in the desert flora and mirror some of the bold colours Jimmy used in his original artworks.
Desert In The Trees
Ochres, walnuts and sage greens. Here, an earthy palette takes inspiration from textures and tones found in the trees, foliage, and ground.
Desert On The Rocks
When we think desert, we can’t not think red. From the dirt and sand dunes to the glow in the sky, we can even feel the colouring of the heat. Then we have the char tones from the bloodwood oak trees, the cracks, and folds of the rocks.
Desert By The Claypans
The lovely, sparkling pinks and blues that form from reflections in the ephemeral claypans make up this desert colour story.
Only once it rains will the claypans fill with water and support the eco system. The ephemeral claypans are short-lived, with water coming and going over short periods of time.
We hope you feel inspired by these beautiful desert colour stories! See the whole Desert in Colour fabric collection online, read more about the legendary Jimmy Pike, and contact our team about your next commercial design project. We’d love to show you how these prints translate to amazing textiles, wall covering and roller blinds that work with your budget and brief.
