A thorough workplace design strategy was paramount to The Mill Architecture + Design’s well-considered fitout for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA)

In recent years, The Mill team has completed detailed workplace assessments, research, and strategy work to help CASA clarify what a modern workplace looks like to them. They have completed fitouts for their locations around the country, with the design strategy refined after each new office was completed and occupied.

The culmination of all this work was the design and construction of the new CASA Head Office in The Mill’s hometown, Canberra.

Completed in November 2023 and occupying 6,600 square metres of space across three levels, the CASA workspace represents best practice in accessible, healthy, agile working and includes spaces to gather, to retreat, to concentrate and to collaborate.

Workplace Design Strategy By The Mill Architecture + Design

The Mill Architecture + Design is a boutique Architectural and interior design practice located in ACT. As everyone deserves great design.”

The Project Brief

  • Efficiency in space usage to minimise costs, meet government space targets and align with CASA’s new agile working model.
  • Economy through the ability to utilise components in different settings allowing change to simply be moving people and not walls.
  • Flexibility to allow staff to utilise different areas for different tasks.
  • Adaptability to allow the organisation to transition through periods of flux and change without the need to alter the built layout.
